The Tikiopolis Chat Network (of which there is one whole server) uses NickServ services to allow users to "own" their nicknames. The NickServ asks the chatter connecting to the server (or when chaning nicknames to the registered nickname) to identify themselves, as a way of authenticating yourself to the NickServ service, to use the nickname. This requires the Comic Chatter to "whisper" a password back to the NickServ, which acts like a user outside of a chat room. To simplify and automate this process for the Comic Chatter, Nostrodomos has developed a Comic Macro to do all of the work of sending your password to the NickServ. How nice of da TikiGawd. This tutorial assumes you have already registered your nickname. You probably wouldn't be looking at this tutorial otherwise! See the tutorial entitled "Registering Your NickName with the Tikiopolis NickServ", which may not be written yet. This tutorial is useful to all Comic Chatters, those who chat in Text Mode as well as Comics Mode. Here's what you must do:
Import the Comic Macro RuleSet into Comic ChatFor your convenience, Nostrodomos has created a Comic Macro RuleSet that can be imported into Comic Chat, which saves you from the manual labor of creating the macro yourself, since you have better things to do.Click to Download the Comic Macro RuleSet. Save it to your Windows Desktop or any other location where you can find the file. If you lose it, search for NickServ.crs. |

Testing the Comic Macro |
|||||
Testing the macro is easy. Disconnect from the chat server, then reconnect. If you see a whisper
box appear like the one below, and it shows text as indicated, then the macro works perfectly.

Troubleshooting |

|
Symptom: Did not get a whisper box from the NickServ asking you to IDENTIFY when logging onto the server. Reason: You did not enter the server with a registered nickname. Solution: Change your nickname to a registered nickname. -or- The Comic Chat anti-flood settings have auto-ignored the NickServ. To un-ignore the NickServ, click on the menu bar: Member | User List..., click the All Users option button, then click the Search button. Click NickServ in the list, then click the Whisper Box button. The Whisper Box will then appear. If the checkbox at bottom of the Whisper Box labeled Ignore User is checked, uncheck it. If this happens often, you may need to adjust your anti-flood settings. Symptom: The NickServ says the nickname is registered, the macro sends the password, but the whisper box responds: Password incorrect. Reason: The password you specified when editing the Comic Macro does not match the password you used when registering your nickanme with NickServ. Solution: Carefully follow these instructions to Set your Password in the Comic Macro. Symptom: The NickServ says the nickname is registered, the macro sends the password, but the whisper box responds: Unknown command MYPASSPWD. "/msg NickServ HELP" for help. (where MYPASSWORD would be your password) Reason: When editing the Comic Macro to specify your password, you erased the entire line instead of the single word PASSWORD. The word "Identify" must preceed your password, with a single space inbetween. Solution: Carefully follow these instructions to Set your Password in the Comic Macro. If you have any heinous problems with this macro, or you have suggestions to make this tutorial more clear or concise, just drop Nostrodomos an Email. Peace, and good chatting. |
